Blog post 3 Reid

The audience of this article is the world because it is world news , but most importantly the people of  the United States of America  because it is the USA Today. The purpose is to inform, because it does not talk about the opinions of the writer but just tells you what is happening.  A diplomat in Sanaa confirmed that arrangements had been made for Saleh's arrival”. In this Article the former president of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh is being exiled along with his immediate family. Saleh has finally decided to step down after a year of violent protests by the people. Thousands still demand his execution.
This article connects with the book because it reminds me of the last chapters of Forgotten Fire when the leaders of the Genocide are being tried for their crimes of killing well over a million Armenians .  Hundreds of street protesters died in crackdowns by the security forces and other violence during a year of political turmoil” This quote is a connects between the book and the article because all of the people killed here are just a small representation of the Armenian Genocide and all of its victims.

Letter

1234 School Dr.                                                                                                                                                                                      Dayton, OH 123456
Dear Selim Bey,

Your actions throughout the book so far have been cruel and mean, but you still hide them from Vahan.  Why do you try to protect Vahan from these horrible things almost like a son, yet you keep him in a stable like a slave.
The issue that I want to talk about is when you brought the young Armenian girl to the stable. Vahan thought that you were giving him company in his long hours in the stable. However this was not the case, for you brought the girl to the stable for the sole purpose of having a source of pleasure for the guards. This hurt Vahan in a way that you could not understand, he began to lose interest in everything he did, all because this girl who he thought would be his friend was too humiliated to even talk because the guards were raping her. When Vahan brought this issue to you all you did was say “what do you care what happens to a little girl you do not know, who is nothing to you. “ You talk about others’ lives as if they were nothing.
I hope that some day you will learn that all live should be valued and not thrown away like trash.   Until then think about what you have done.
Sincerely,
Caleb

Polarization, Mrs. Reid

Forgotten Fire displays polarization because the Gendarmes or Turks try to separate the males from the females. This makes for a lot of confusion in the book, The oldest man or men of the family(usually the father) are taken away by gendarmes saying they have been requested by someone, but they never return. Many of their wives believe they will return any day, “We don’t know he’s dead, do we? Have we seen a body? Has anyone told us he’s dead?” (Bagdasarian,2002, pg. 79). Another Example they separate the older males by killing them in front of their family. These are forms of polarization because they separate the males from the females by killing them.
