Defiance #2
I think that it is justifiable because they are dying and they need food to survive. They are stealing from people who can spare it and the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. The reason they kill is unjustifiable but understandable because if they don't kill then they will get killed.

Defiance #1
I think the actions of Zus and Tuvia are justifiable because the do not steal excessively from one farm they only steal from the farms that can spare it. This is also necessary because if they don't steal then they die. The fact that they are being hunted like animals is worse enough and every man deserves to live.

Holocaust Exhibit
One of the things that really stood out to me about the exhibit that showed one of the stages of genocide was the boxcar. The box car was pulled by a train and had a maximum occupancy of 40 people, but the Nazi's crammed almost 100 people in each car for days without food or water. This to me really exemplifies two different stages in genocide, polarization and dehumanization. I think the boxcar shows more of dehumanization because the Nazi's didn't care how uncomfortable they were they didn't see the Jews as human.

Pictures; Then and Now
Life in Vienna for Jews was pretty ordinary before the war. As you can see they did recreational things like swimming and others. One thing that I discovered when I looking at my photos compared to the one from the holocaust was that all of the photos were usually taken with someone else because a photo is more memorable if there is someone else to remember it as well, this is also seen in the photo from the holocaust.
There are many things similar and different in the two photos. Some of the differences are that the picture from the holocaust is black and white and is a picture of a couple, whereas my picture is just of me and I am swimming not posing in front of the pool or lake. Some things that are similar between the two photos is that it is summer in both pictures as well as we are both doing the same recreational task of swimming even if the couple is about to swim.

Vienna
During the era of World war 2 Vienna housed 28 percent of the country’s population and about 170,000 Jews. Vienna was an important center for the Jewish community, for education and culture. Jews in Vienna made a considerable part of the upper class with jobs including doctors, lawyers and bankers.
In 1938, Nazi Germany incorporated the Austrian Republic, which gave the Nazi’s a large amount of power in Austria; Quickly taking advantage of this power, the Nazi’s instituted anti-Jewish laws to all of Austria. After one year almost all of the Jewish shops had been closed or destroyed(Jewish Shop damaged by Kristallnacht) and most of the Jewish families had been sent to Dachau concentration camp.

Blog #4
My views on Genocide have not changed after this lesson, although I have learned many new things about how it happens and why. Such as that genocide is not only the physical harm of people but also mental.

iWitness Armenian Genocide Survivor
Arpiar Missakin born 1894 in Kessab. When Arpiar was just a boy, Turkish soldiers attacked his town of Kessab with 20,000 men. The men of the town fought back but it was hopeless and after 50 or so deaths they fled along with the rest of the townspeople. The people returned 5-6 days later and saw that their town had been burned to the ground; this was part of the Adana massacres.
Arpiar and the rest of his family were the last to be deported out of Kessab because they were Protestant. The American ambassador had secured their safety but they were deported out anyway. They were forced to put everything they had on mules and set out under armed guard. They were sent to Meskeneh a huge camp for Armenian deportees. There was very little to eat and many died every day. There were bones everywhere; Meskeneh was a horrible place and it is thought that over 60,000 people died there.
Judging by his picture on the website, I would say that Arpiar is completely devastated by the Armenian genocide; it has affected him physically and emotionally. His face shows sadness and loss from this terrible happening. In his hands he has American marine medals which might infer that he joined the American marines afterwards. He might have done this because he wants to prevent this from happening again.

Classification/symbolization
I think that at the stage of symbolization it becomes a problem, when you start to associate a symbol with something bad or something you don't like.

Why does genocide occur?
I think that Genocide happens because, either the attacker is angry at a certain group of people or is blaming them for another act or the attackers problems
